The fourth installment of the popular series by Rockstar features improved graphics, new features, and new gameplay. Players take on the role of Niko Bellic, a rough-around-the-edge chap from Eastern Europe. Niko has arrived in America, in Liberty City -- a land full of promise and opportunity. His cousin convinced him to emigrate, to join him in his mansion and life of luxury, but as soon as he steps off the boat, Niko discovers the truth about the American way. Still, the wealth, the comfort, the bliss of the good life, it all really is here ... And it\'s all for the taking.
GTA IV reinvents the series with a renewed version of Liberty City detailed to the last pothole and rooftop vent. There are now four boroughs to explore plus extra area outside of Liberty City proper. With the ability to climb obstacles, drive cars, steer boats and pilot helicopters, the world of GTA is more accessible than ever before. Grand Theft Auto IV is, without question, one of the most highly anticipated games of 2008. Rockstar Games has shown us pieces of GTA IV on three different occasions. With each visit we saw the incredible potential for GTA IV, but not having the chance to play it, we could only assume these things would prove true. We knew there was a new dimension of verticality to the city, that our anti-hero Niko would be a down-to-earth anti-hero rather than an over-the-top movie spoof, that the new level of physics would bring greater realism to driving cars, and that it would be fun going bat$#!@ crazy running through the streets with a gun in hand (Martin Lawrence style). It wasn\'t until Rockstar turned over the controller and let us play GTA IV that we could finally confirm that, yes indeed, these statements are all true. The next iteration in the Grand Theft Auto series isn\'t just a prettier version of San Andreas or Vice City. It\'s more cinematic, more realistic, and yeah, more fun. It\'s a whole new ballgame in Liberty City. For the first time, Rockstar gave us hands-on access to both the PS3 and 360 versions of GTA IV. The good news is that no matter which system you prefer, you\'re going to have a great-looking game to play. There are only some minor visual differences noticeable between the two preview versions. The 360 build is brighter and has slightly more vibrant color while the PS3 build has less aliasing issues. Both display a solid, consistent framerate even during scenes with heavy pedestrian traffic and wild explosions. While graphics whores will find subtle differences to nitpick, the average Joe is going to be happy with either version. User reviews

GTA IV - Same old GTA ......., Thursday, 29 May 2008 Written by LazyLunatic - View all my reviews - Top 10 Reviewer Back to the game; it had so much hype about it being that good but is it really a shiny version of older GTA games. I reckon so. The story and missions are the same, just new places and new faces. There is not enough places to go in to, not enough to explore, not enough little goodies to play with, etc. No planes, no parachutes, no car modification etc. San Andreas had tattoo palour, gym and stats which increased throughout the game. It even had the BMX, which is missed in this game. Rockstar have tried to compensate with Taxi service, which is AWESOME, and a few other little things like cars are more real, improved handling, etc. The attention to detail is unbelievable and the graphics, lighting, water effects, car damage - WOW! Online play is sweet, but this sort of had to be put in as it the best game ever on the Xbox 360! Top marks though. It is different and some clever ideas. But they really should have spent more time to improve the gameplay. Single player and story really needed more work. So its real rating, compared to what it should be: 6/10 I\'m just disappointed. Can't wait, Monday, 07 April 2008 Written by Howitzer - View all my reviews - Top 10 Reviewer \"In only eleven years, Grand Theft Auto completely changed gaming, opened it up, made it dangerous, exciting, and relevant to a wider world. It pushed a novel idea, that video games weren\'t always made or meant for kids, and then made the idea stick. GTA remains the champion of the M-rating, ready and willing to satirize supporters and detractor in equally excessive measure. Dozens followed its lead and built franchises of their own -- some punked in-game by the master -- but none delivered the same raw, visceral experience or dared to take the joke too far. Especially not on purpose, without ever really knowing how people might react. But those are the risks in America. People do what they do in America. The game\'s not about what\'s right or real, who you kill, what you steal, or saving the day. You\'re in the world, making choices. Screw up bad and deal with that for a while. And some take offense at our ways, but it\'s okay. If they don\'t know what\'s real, we do. Crime pays, baby.\" by Rus McLaughlin
